DecalFix
Decals sit on the surface; a setting solution makes them look painted on. Humbrol DecalFix softens decals so they settle into panel lines and recesses, then holds them permanently once dry. Clearfix is the companion for clear plastic parts, going on without the frosting effect traditional glues can leave.

How DecalFix works
DecalFix is a water-based solution, supplied in glass bottles. Brush it onto the decal, or immerse it for around 45 seconds until it softens. Slide it off with a brush and dab it dry with tissue paper. Softened decals can be drawn into panel lines, and they are permanent once dry, which takes 20 to 30 minutes. Keep a cheap brush just for DecalFix and rinse it in water while the residue is wet.
Where decals behave best
Decals usually go onto Acrylic or Enamel painted surfaces, or over a Clear Varnish coat. Take care over Matt paint, where trapped air can cause silvering under the decal film. Never force decals dry: heat can shrink, crease or shrivel them, and they need only minutes anyway.
Clearfix and clear parts
Clearfix is a solvent-based polymer solution for clear plastic parts, applied sparingly with a cocktail stick. Drawn around a small window frame and pulled across the opening, it forms a thin, clear membrane. It can make windows as well as fix them. It sits in the Coatings and Thinners range because it is not a general-purpose glue.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do I soak decals in DecalFix?
Around 45 seconds, or until the decal has visibly softened, then slide it off its backing with a brush and dab it dry with tissue paper. Brushing DecalFix directly onto the decal works too. Once positioned, the decal settles into surface detail and becomes permanent within 20 to 30 minutes.
Why do my decals silver over Matt paint?
Silvering is trapped air showing through the decal film, and Matt surfaces make it more likely because their texture holds micro pockets of air. Decals behave best over Gloss or Satin paintwork, or over a coat of Clear Varnish, with DecalFix drawing the film down into the surface detail.
Can I speed up decal drying?
No, and do not try: force-drying can shrink, crease or shrivel a decal. DecalFix is hard-dry within 20 to 30 minutes on its own, so there is little to gain. Position the decal while everything is wet, settle it with the brush, then leave it alone until it has set.
What is Clearfix for?
Clear plastic parts: canopies, windows and light lenses. Unlike traditional glues, it carries no risk of frosting, and it can form small windows from scratch. Apply it sparingly with a cocktail stick and wipe any wet excess with a damp cloth.
