Sable, synthetic and natural hair

Hair type is the first choice. Coloro is the synthetic range, suited to every paint type and especially superb with acrylic paint. Evoco carries natural hair for general-purpose work, and Palpo is sable, made for enamel painting. Whichever you pick, the brush lasts only if clean-up matches the paint on it.

Sizes, from panel lines to fuselages

Sizes run from an ultra-fine 00000, for the smallest detail, up to 8 for larger surfaces. The smaller the number, the finer the point. For broad areas, dry brushing and weathering work, the brush packs bundle Detail, Flat and Stipple types in graded sizes, which is the practical way to start before you know which two or three you will actually reach for. For spraying rather than brushing, the airbrush covers what bristles cannot.

Cleaning model paint brushes

Clean-up depends on the paint, not the brush. Acrylic rinses out with water while wet; Enamel, cotes and washes need Enamel Thinners; dried acrylic takes cellulose thinners. The rest of the painting tools range covers spraying and propellant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which brushes suit acrylic paint?

The synthetic Coloro brushes are made for all paint types and are at their best with acrylic, handling water clean-up and repeated sessions. If you paint mostly with Humbrol ccrylics, synthetic is the sensible default; Evoco suits general-purpose work and Palpo's sable is for enamel.

How do I clean brushes after model painting?

Match the cleaner to the paint. Water rinses out acrylic while it is still wet; Enamel Thinners covers enamel paint, Model Filler, washes and cotes. Cellulose thinners shifts acrylic that has already dried in the bristles. Clean immediately after painting rather than at the start of the next session.

What sizes do model paint brushes come in?

Individual brushes run from 00000 up to 8; the graded brush packs extend the spread to 10. The smaller the number, the finer the point. Sizes 000 to 2 cover panel lines, figures and detail work; 3 upwards carries more paint for fuselages, hulls and bases.
