About the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway
Sittingbourne’s Steam Railway is a narrow-gauge heritage industrial railway that uses the original route, locomotives, coaches and wagons of the Bowater’s Paper Mill railway. The line runs between Sittingbourne Retail Park (formerly a paper mill) and Kemsley Paper Mill (still active).
Trains run every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday from Easter until the end of September, plus Wednesdays throughout August. We have many special events throughout the season, finishing on our Gala Weekend.
The journey takes 15 minutes, where you can take your time to explore Kemsley Down, before catching a later train back. Or you can enjoy a round trip, with a 20-minute stop before the return journey. There are accessible toilets at both stations, and we are step-free from the street to the train. The Footplate Café is air-conditioned, and there is also a small museum and railway shop
We offer a completely different way of looking at heritage railways - the view is not pretty, it’s an industrial line, still running after over 111 years. Milton Regis Viaduct is a highlight at almost 1km long, with 118 spans and six bridges as it winds through the industrial area at the end of Milton Creek.
One of our locomotives, ‘Leader’, is on display in the entrance hall at the One:One Collection (you can’t miss it - it's red!).

How to find us
Sittingbourne Viaduct station is about 5-10 minute walk from Sittingbourne National Rail station, so it is possible to arrive by Southeastern Highspeed train and then travel back in time on our line.
